Children's Hospital in the News for Great Service to Valley Children

U.S. News & World Report has named five California hospitals as being among the nation's best in the magazine's first ranking of children's hospitals by specialty.

The magazine is highlighting the 30 top-ranked hospitals in cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery, neonatal care, neurology and neurosurgery, and respiratory disorders.

California has three facilities that make the list: Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, and UCSF Children's Hospital. They made the top 30 in all seven categories. As far as Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA is concerned, it made the top 30 in five categories: general pediatrics, cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery and neurology and neurosurgery. Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego was among the top 30 in neonatal care.

Description

A Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient-focused care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Directing and coordinating nursing care for acute and critically ill patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards.
Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Utilize knowledge of evidence based practice, National Patient Safety Goals, and other established standards of care, in the provision of quality nursing care, resulting in positive outcomes .
When oriented and as directed, serves in the ‘Charge Nurse’ role.

Provide direct patient care for assigned patients and assist in the care of other patients as needed. Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures. Assess patients' response to dialysis therapy and make appropriate adjustments and modifications to the treatment plan as indicated or directed by the supervisor or as prescribed by the Physician. Assess patient pre, interim, and post dialysis and document findings. Administer medications as ordered to assigned patients. Responsible for assessing educational needs of patient and educating the patient and family regarding end stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet and medications.
Job Requirements
Current appropriate R.N. licensure. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Successful completion of a training course in theory and practice of hemodialysis. Successful completion of CPR Certification. Minimum of one-year medical-surgical nursing experience preferred. Hemodialysis experience preferred but not required. ICU experience preferred. Ability to assist in lifting patients and equipment. Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during times of short staffing or as required.
